The Australian Brewery Kingsford Invitational was a roaring success over the weekend. Despite the heat and the space the teams squeezed into, the pit-site comradery was on full display. Fuelled with Buffalo Trace Bourbon and Australian Brewery beer the atmosphere was buoyant throughout the weekend. With the size of the prize and the best of the best teams competing from around Australia and the world, there was never any doubt though that everybody was there to cook.
Stirling Smith from Loot N Booty BBQ in Arizona, USA took out not only first place in lamb but also the inaugural Australian Brewery Kingsford Invitational grand champion award. Stirling was the life of the party over the weekend even making Aussie TV . Stirling was treated by the Aussie teams a classic Australian burger with the works; (pineapple, beetroot and egg) courtesy of milky lane burgers and an Australian pavlova (to the outrage of the kiwi teams.)
“What an amazing experience we had at The Australian Brewery Kingsford Invitational. The opportunity to compete with the best of the best from Australia and New Zealand is a once in a lifetime experience and to be crowned Grand Champion is a true honour that I will hold forever. Thank you to the Amazing staff who made us all feel like home and family.”

The Beard and the BBQ represented the Australian teams picking up reserve grand champion and had plenty to celebrate also coming second in the Tajima Brisket category. Scotch and Smoke won the Australian Brewery Promoters challenge with a Waygu 2.5 months wet aged full blood Kobe porterhouse Marble score 8; soaked in Into the Void oatmeal stout. It was reverse seared with Ironbark and pecan wood, topped with Australia King Prawns and a homemade chipotle Béarnaise sauce.
The category winners were rounded out by:
The BBQ Food Festival had cooking demonstrations at the Kingsford Charcoal and Barbecues Galore stand. Local suppliers Angry Beard Smokers had a set up and gave away a $3500 offset smoker to Australian Brewery local Greg Simmons.
Overall the feedback from the teams were fantastic and everybody is already planning the trip for next year. All eyes are now on the ABA leader board.
