Recent years have seen low and slow style BBQ capture the imagination of the Australian food landscape. Over this period BBQ competitions have been on the rise with sensational events like Meatstock in Sydney and Melbourne and Blues and BBQ in Port Macquarie. These events combine food trucks, live music and competition BBQ teams from around the country.
Building on this momentum, the Australian Brewery has launched the first BBQ invitational competition in this country on the 25th & 26th of November. The Australian Brewery Kingsford Invitational. With $40,000 in cash and prizes it is also Australia’s richest BBQ competition.
With thirty of the best teams from around Australia and five international teams this competition is comprised of the best of the best. Shogun BBQ from Tokyo, Japan and Octopit Pro from New Zealand have taken the first international spots with three more to follow.
Officially sanctioned by the ABA Australian BBQ’s governing body the competition will be adjudicated and judged in a series of blind tastings. The categories are Chicken, Lamb, Pork Ribs, Pork, and Brisket. An exciting optional challenge is up for grabs with 1 x case of beer per week for a year on the line. This challenge is open to any meat or any style of cooking using an Australian Brewery beer.
Alongside this prestigious BBQ invitational, the event will have food trucks, live music, BBQ vendors, cooking displays and masterclasses. Over two days the Brewery will play host to thousands of people to enjoy this BBQ extravaganza.
Tickets are only $5 and will be available soon.
