Recent years have seen low and slow style BBQ capture the imagination of the Australian food landscape. Over this period BBQ competitions have been on the rise with sensational events like Meatstock in Sydney and Melbourne and Blues and BBQ in Port Macquarie. These events combine food trucks, live music and competition BBQ teams from around the country.
Building on this momentum, the Australian Brewery has launched the first ever BBQ Food Fest in this country. On the 25th & 26th of November, the BBQ Food Fest will feature the Kingsford invitational competition with $40,000 in cash and prizes, it is Australia’s richest BBQ competition.
This competition is comprised of the best of the best teams from across the globe, thirty of the best Aussie teams and five All-star international teams will be going head to head for the top prize. Bush Kitchen from the US and Octopit Pro from New Zealand have taken the first international spots with three more to follow.
Officially sanctioned by the ABA Australian BBQ’s governing body the competition will be adjudicated and judged in a series of blind tastings. The categories are Chicken, Lamb, Pork Ribs, Pork, and Brisket. An exciting optional challenge is up for grabs with 1 x case of beer per week for a year on the line. This challenge is open to any meat or any style of cooking using an Australian Brewery beer.
There’s no better way to celebrate the launch of Summer this year than with a BBQ Food Fest featuring live music, BBQ food vendors, BBQ displays, a range of masterclasses and BBQ celebs from across the globe. The event will feature a range of special guests from all categories including headliners Thirsty Merc putting on a free show on Saturday night. It seems BBQ lovers have a lot to look forward to with this festival.
Food vendors including the likes of Happy As Larry and Smoking Grill BBQ will be cooking up a storm over the weekend as well as our very own Bella Shack, one of Western Sydney’s favourite gourmet burger trucks.
The weekend has captured the attention of BBQ supporters BBQ Galore, Buffalo Trace, Angry Beard BBQ, Kingsford and Andrews Meats, who have come aboard to sponsor the event and shape this BBQ extravaganza into something truly spectacular.
Tickets are only $5 and will be available soon.
