You get a medal! You get a medal! You get a medal!
The 2017 AIBA awards has seen our best ever result at any awards with three gold medals and two bronze. The Australian International Beer Awards is the biggest and most prestigious beer awards in the country. It is judged in a series of blind tastings by a panel of brewers from around the country. We won a gold for our delicious Australian Pale Ale and two gold medals for our All-Star IPA in both packaged and draught. Our New World Pilsner and Australian Pale Ale both also took the bronze medals.
In 2016 we won one gold medal and five silvers which would have been a great result this year. Our Saison D’ Heretique the gold medal winning beer from last year was not submitted this time around. This added more pressure on our brewing team to raise our game with the rest of the range.
Our most recent can the Seis Hermanos Lager had previously won a gold medal at the CBIA awards last year and we expected it to place pretty well at the AIBA. However, after getting the post competition feedback we had put it in the wrong category meaning it got marked down for style. On all other points; flavour aroma, appearance and technical quality the beer scored well.
CEO and founder Marcello Colosimo as well as head brewer Dan Shaw went down to the awards in Melbourne and as all other brewers can attest it was a very long evening. Each table was kept well stocked with beers submitted for judging and the choicest brews were quickly picked over by the brewers. As the night came to an end around midnight the after party was held at Beer Deluxe Federation Square, where several more beers were enjoyed.
The awards season is now in full swing and we have submitted our beers into various competitions not only in Australia but around the world. We hope to keep this run going throughout the year.
Congratulations to the other winners.
